FY2022 HMIS Data Standards: Upcoming Changes
HUD has released the new FY 2022 HMIS Data Standards, which include some updates that will affect HMIS end users in Cambridge. Below is a summary of new and updated data elements with the new data standards, effective 10/1/2021. For further reference, see HUD’s 2022 HMIS Data Standards Manual here. Updated Fields
3.06 Gender: HUD’s changes to this field reflect more inclusivity regarding a client’s self-identification and is allowing for multiple selections instead of only one. “Transgender” has replaced the two separate options for “Trans Female” and “Trans Male”. HUD also replaced “Gender Non-Conforming” with “A gender other than singularly female or male”. The options for the new multi-select picklist are as follows:

3.04 Race: HUD has updated the language for several response options for Race:
“American Indian or Alaska Native” is now “American Indian, Alaska Native, or Indigenous”
“Asian” is now “Asian or Asian American”
“Black or African American” is now “Black, African American, or African”
“Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander” is now “Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander”
3.05 Ethnicity: HUD has updated the language for the Ethnicity response options:
“Non-Hispanic/Non-Latino” is now “Non-Hispanic/Non-Latin(a)(o)(x)”
“Hispanic/Latino” is now “Hispanic/Latin(a)(o)(x)”
4.20 Coordinated Entry Event: The following new referral event options have been added:
Referral to emergency assistance/flex fund/furniture assistance
Referral to Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV)
Note: HUD will be releasing additional guidance for EHV referral events
Referral to a Housing Stability Voucher
New Required Elements for CoC-Funded PSH Projects
C1 Well Being: This field is to be completed by the Head of Household during project enrollment, annual assessments, and project exit in Permanent Supportive Housing project types.
C1 Fields:
“Information Date”: Date field for when the information was collected
Fields “Client perceives their life has value and worth”, “Client perceives they have support from others who will listen to problems”, and “Client perceives they have a tendency to bounce back after hard times” have the following response options:

Somewhat disagree
Neither agree nor disagree
Somewhat agree
Strongly agree
Client doesn’t know
Client refused

Field “Client’s frequency of feeling nervous, tense, worried, frustrated, or afraid” has the following response options:
Not at all
Once a month

C2 Moving On Assistance Provided: This field is for Heads of Household enrolled in Permanent Supportive Housing project types and is found in the Service functionality. C2 is to be collected at the occurrence point of the service.
Note: Moving On strategies address clients in PSH projects who may no longer need or want the intensive services offered in PSH but continue to need assistance to maintain their housing.
C2 Fields:
“Date of Moving On Assistance”: Date on which Moving On Assistance was provided.
“Moving On Assistance” field has the following response options:
Subsidized housing application assistance
Financial assistance for Moving On (e.g., security deposit, moving expenses)
Non-financial assistance for Moving On (e.g., housing navigation, transition support)
Housing referral/placement
Other (please specify)
R7 General Health Status: This field is now required for Heads of Household enrolled in CoC-funded Permanent Supportive Housing project types and is collected at project start and exit.
R7 Fields:
