Warming Center to open week of Jan. 15
We are very happy to share the news that the long awaited warming center serving individuals who are homeless will begin operations during the week of January 15 in the basement of the Citywide Senior Center at 806 Massachusetts Avenue. The Warming Center will be operated by Bay Cove Human Services which was the successful responder to the City’s request for proposal earlier this fall. We invite you to attend a community meeting where the City will answer questions from local residents and businesses on Tuesday evening, January 9th, at the Citywide Senior Center Ballroom at 6:00 pm.
The Warming Center is a welcoming and safe drop in center where unsheltered adults can come and spend the night and be safe from the environmental hazards of the street during the winter months.
The Center will offer a safe space, with beverages and a hot meal, access to bathrooms, and the ability to rest on a yoga mat on the floor. The Center will be open 11 hours each night, 7 nights weekly during the winter months. The Warming Center will operate in the basement of the Senior Center, with access solely thru the rear parking lot on Green Street.
In the morning, transportation will be waiting to bring all overnight guests to the CASPAR Emergency Services Shelter where guests are welcome to stay. Our primary concern is to ensure optimal health and safety for all guests, staff, and nearby neighbors. Our Center aims to do this on a foundation of respect, dignity, and welcome for all comers, despite the experiences and challenges they are facing.
